3 Wireless Laptop Computer Questions Answered

By Jackie Beem Platinum Quality Author

To make a laptop wireless, a signal is necessary, either available at a home network or any public Wi-Fi location, and a wireless card or built-in wireless connection is required for a laptop to pick up the signal.

How Do I Connect A Wireless Printer to a Wireless Laptop?

Printers that can be networked will come with either a wireless adapter or a network adapter.

Since the question states wireless printer then let's assume that it has a wireless adapter. You can then plug it directly to a wireless router or you can use it in what is called ad-hoc mode.

If you choose to use ad-hoc mode then be aware that printing will monopolize your wireless adapter in your Laptop.

There are some good step-by-step instructions at wikiHow; "How To Set Up a Wireless Printer Connection".

Are all Laptops Wireless?

Most laptops today (Oct, 2009) have integrated wireless, so you will not need to purchase a wireless adapter for the laptop.

How Do I Connect an Old Laptop to a Wireless Home Network?

Depending on how old the laptop is it probably does not have integrated wireless as most new laptops do today.

Assuming you already have a wireless home network setup you will need to add a wireless network adapter of some type to your old laptop. Even though there are a number of different wireless adapters, the two primary ones used today for laptops are either a PC Card, sometimes referred to as a PCMCIA card, or a USB wireless adapter.

The PC Card is about the size of a credit card and fits into a slot on the side of your laptop. Before you purchase make sure that your old laptop has such a slot.

The USB Wireless Adapter will of course require that your laptop have a USB port available.

Before you purchase either adapter, make sure that it is compatible with your laptop's operating system. Also, make sure the wireless adapter is Wi-Fi certified.

Check the transfer rate and the adapter's range to be sure it will meet your needs.

More information and answers about wireless computing can be found at Wireless Laptop Computers. In addition, you can learn more about Wireless Network Routers, Wireless USB Adapters, DSL Wireless Modems and more.

Refurbished Desktop Computer and Laptop- Extending Their Usability and Functionality

If you have just started off working, or in an unenviable position of having to juggle your finances between needs and wants, spending lavishly on a laptop computer or notebook computer might just be out of question.

But then, if you are more particular about being able to use a fully functional laptop to do your work, then you might need to look at a used, pre-loved or second hand or refurbished laptop computers.

Many used models of laptops belong to well known brandswhere quality of technology, strong technical support and quality control in manufacturing has led to products of exceptional standard and value.

However, with the fast advent of newer technology in chips, and in physical designs and smaller sized footprints, there are many who would like to upgrade , preferring to sell their used laptops by auction or private sale, and to use the proceeds to buy newer models.

What this means is that if you are hard of cash or lack the finance to buy a full blown latest laptop model of a famous brand, you can certainly look at a used or Refurbished laptop computer , especially those which are being sold by auction in eBay or an online store.

How then do you extend the usability of such lower models?

Normally, these older model laptops possess lesser hard disk capacity, and it is usual to see them with only 3 gig of hard disk space, for some older models. For example, the popular Dell Latitude commonly sees in eBay auctions will come in at 3.1 gig of hard disk space. Now this is hardly enough for today's needs, but upgrading the hard disk would cost a lot more.

So what can we do to extend the usability?

The solution is to add a thumb drive or a pen-drive. Pen drives of 1 gig are cheap enough and provide additional storage capacity for mobile computing.

At the same time, to help in speed, think in terms of extending its RAM to at least 256 K RAM.

Once you have the RAM improved, and the hard disk capacity extended through a pen drive, you can derive a lot of satisfaction from using a pre-loved or second hand laptop , until you care fluid enough financially to afford a newer one.

Pc Desktop Computers - Tips For Choosing The Right

By Gabriel J. Adams Platinum Quality Author

Are you ready to purchase a new computer? Great! The choices can be daunting, though. Just
looking at the price aspect, you can spend anywhere from three hundred euros to several
thousand euros, quite easily.
The first choice you'll need to make is whether to buy a desktop or a laptop. If you need
any amount of mobility at all, we'd suggest a laptop. If you don't plan on moving your
computer around or using away from your home or office, you might want a desktop. Desktop
computers are easier to repair and are cheaper for what you get.
Next, you'll need to make a choice on some of the major features and components of the
computer.
Memory is a big factor in determining how quickly your computer performs tasks - I would
not buy a computer with less than 512 MB of memory. 1 GB of memory would be even better. If
you are planning on doing lots of multimedia work or other tasks that require a lot of
operating resources, you should probably get 2 GB of memory. Also keep in mind that memory
is classified by speed as well as storage size.
You'll also need to decide on what processor you want and/or need. If you're not familiar
with the technical aspects of computer processors and you are going to need a processor
that's more powerful than standard, you might want to consult with a computer expert to
help you make the choice.
You'll also need to choose the hard drive size you'll need. This is any easy choice to make
- just see how much hard drive space you're using now, add in any increases you expect to
need, then add some space for expansion.
There are many, many different components of a computer that you'll have to choose. It's
worth a little time to think about exactly what you need so you make the right choice the
first time.

Better yet; they offer full functionality, even though they are generally less high-powered than their notebook computer components. Everyone from college students to business executives are jumping on board with these mini notebook computers! In addition to their small size, the low price tag is often a big draw.

It all started with the Asus eee PC computer. Asus is now known for being a top quality company, and many people still clamor to get this particular brand. Of course, there are many choices these days! Acer, Samsung, Toshiba, MSI, HP, Dell, and other brands are now getting into the mini notebook computer craze.

It can be hard to make your decision with so many great options around, which is why MiniNotebookComputer.net is here. We’ve gathered reviews of the top mini notebooks, from the best brands. Better yet, we have found the absolute lowest prices for you so you don’t have to spend any more money than you have to on your new netbook.

If you haven’t yet decided whether you’d like to get a mini notebook computer, you might be wondering what all the fuss is about. After all, it’s not always easy to see on a 10 inch screen! The allure of netbooks is that they are so easy to carry around, and still pack a lot of power. Whether you are running off quickly to class, or are carrying it a purse or briefcase off to business meeting, they are really a great option.

You can do everything you can do on a regular computer, except use disks. Although, you can attach a device that will allow you to use this on the computer, it does not come with that option since it is so small. The keyboards also tend to be a little bit smaller, but many of them are being made so that they are nearly full-size these days! Many people will not notice a difference with the size, and the netbook keyboards are usually easy to adapt to. Of course, you’ll have to examine this on a case-by-case basis as you make your decision based on the many available models.

In addition to dimensions, another great thing about these mini notebook computers is the price. They can be found for anywhere from $200 up to around $600, with many hovering around $300-$400 price point. For people who are in the market for a new computer, this is a very appealing option! This is especially true if you are not ready to plunk down thousands for a new computer. These economic times are often tough, and this price point is perfect for many people. You really can’t go wrong when you get a mini notebook computer.

AC Adapter / Power Supply Cord for Laptop HP Pavilion ZD7000 Series / ZD7000 ZD7070 ZD7101 ZD7063 ZD7065

Customer Review: Don't buy this if you have an HP zd7000
This item worked ok for a few weeks, but the connector was never snug. After about 3 months it would supply power only intermittently to the laptop because of the loose fitting connector. I have to wiggle the connector around and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I need to find another adapter. This has been a big time waster.

Laptop Computer Reviews

By Kelly Hunter Platinum Quality Author

If you are approaching the time to invest in a new or first owned laptop computer then you'll probably be wondering what ones are the best. Certain brand names and computer retailers come out with laptops that are above the competition and deciphering which ones are the best can be difficult, especially for a consumer that isn't very tech savvy. Here's a brief laptop review guide to the best computers out there.

Apple MacBook Pro 15”: The Apple MacBook is one of the newest computers of 2007 and it is one of Apple’s latest and greatest inventions. It is a 15.4” screen with 120 GB of hard drive (very big!) and built in Bluetooth technology. The pros of the MacBook are its size and screen while its cons are mainly its price. Let’s start with the size. The MacBook has a pretty small look to it and it is incredibly thin. When stacked up against other like laptops this computer will be much thinner and portable then the competition. Its screen is an LCD screen that has a few cool benefits. Number one, it has a sensor that automatically reads the room’s brightness level and adjusts the computer’s screen so that it is always at the proper level. Number two, you have the ability to manually adjust the screen’s brightness so you’re always in control of how the screen looks and how much light you need. The biggest con of the MacBook of course was the price. Priced at $1900 it is a little on the high side, although lower than many other laptops with similar features.

Sony VAIO: The VAIO is one of the most popular computers currently on the market and it sells so well for a number of reasons, including its style, its weight and its features. The VAIO is only 6lbs and it has a stylish, widescreen that many consumers love. The screen is backlit with LCD lighting and it is designed for the person who enjoys watching movies or playing video games on their laptop. With 120 GB of hard drive this computer is built to hold plenty of movies, music files and games. The Sony VAIO is the perfect laptop for the consumer seeking an entertainment device. Plus, being priced around $1300-1500 it isn’t too high for a person to finance.

HP Pavilion dv9000: This HP laptop is a little different from the devices the company has come out with in the past and many consumers love the change. The dv9000 is a Media Center laptop that comes with an innovative HD screen, meaning all DVDs and visuals will be enjoyed through high definition. This laptop is perfect for the consumer who needs a computer that can handle media files because it has 200 GB of storage, a 17 inch widescreen and at $2,300 it isn’t the most expensive like machine out there.

Well there you go, laptop reviews to the best new computers on the market today! For more laptop reviews check out the Consumer Reports or PC Magazine.

Desk top Computers, -Some Tips To Consider When Buying A Laptop-.

Many lap top computers are far more powerful than even high end desk top computers were just a few years ago. So let's take a look at some tips you'll want to be aware of when you go to buy a lap top computer.

As the capacities, power, size and lower cost of laptops continues to improve, laptop computers continue to represent increasing value for the dollar. But there are some important things to be aware of when considering a laptop. This article will focus on some of the primary issues.

The first decision to consider when purchasing a laptop is whether you need or want a Windows, Apple or Linux operating system.

Because the windows operating system has become so pervasive the majority will stick by with a Windows operating system. Windows XP Pro should be minimum and their new VISTA operating system if you can afford it. Keep in mind, if you are going to be dependent on friends and family to help you in getting used to using your new laptop computer, most of them will not have knowledge of the VISTA Operating system until even as late as 2010.

Those who have used Apple in the past, and are more familiar with Apple will have far more limited options, but are probably best off sticking with Apple.

Linux users will need to analyze compatibility issues on Linux forums online.

Again, if you are new to computing, and know you will be dependent on friends, family or even business associates for assistance as you get up to speed on using your computer, they are far more likely to be able to help you if you have a Windows Operating System on your laptop than a Mac or Linux operating system. Not that one operating system is necessarily any better than the other, but windows is known best by most computer users.

Assuming you know what operating system you are looking for, the next step is to set a budget, and determine whether you want a new or used machine. Used laptops represent a good value for machines in the $600 - $700 range and below. However they come with zero warranty. There are some excellent deals that can be found on "Refurbished" laptop computers, but you need to buy them locally, find out what the warranty and support conditions are and whether or not you can pay a little extra to increase the warranty and support period.

If you don't think you need all the bells and whistles of a brand new system, buying a used system through a seller at EBay or from a laptop refurbishing company can make a lot of sense economically. When scouring EBay, look for the Power Sellers who sell many used laptops, and make sure their customer satisfaction and return policies are solid.
Don't be tempted to buy systems without enough processing power just because they are cheap. Now days, anything below a Pentium 3 processor is best avoided, as Pentium 3 machines can already be found relatively inexpensively used or refurbished.

Once you have set your budget, determine the minimum memory capacity for your needs. Here I am referring to RAM or Random Access Memory. I would highly recommend setting 512 MegaBytes as your minimum memory capacity. If you are intending to do high end graphic presentations or video presentations 1024 MegaBytes should be your minimum. Stripping memory out of a computer is a common way to sell them at lower prices. But memory is often the weak link in personal computer systems, bringing the performance of the machine down significantly. Lots of memory is the great equalizer in computers, and many people fail to realize that a lower end laptop with lots of memory will often outperform a higher end one without the memory.

Once you have you memory needs and budget set, you can start to compare models for weight, ergonomics, and most importantly, screen size. Finding a size and weight that is acceptable to you is important, but finding the correct screen size should be your primary consideration.

Many people are excited by the larger screened laptops, but fail to fully appreciate the impact of resolutions. Most laptops come with a set with an ideal resolution, and switching to a higher or lower resolution can distort text. Some laptops with large 17 inch screens are set at very high screen resolution, making them difficult to read for long periods of time without some eye strain. Some of the inexpensive laptops with 15 inch screens can also be difficult to read and with on than laptops with larger screens. 1024x768 should be an acceptable screen resolution for most laptop monitors. Avoiding larger screens that require higher resolutions above 1024X768 can save a lot of money, and deliver a machine that is just as easy to work on and read from.

Finally, there are networking considerations. By now, it does not make a lot of sense to purchase any laptop without WiFi wireless networking capabilities. Most new laptops will come with this standard, but with older and used laptops it is an item you need to verify. With the constant increase in wireless accessibility, a laptop without this capability will become obsolete within a few years.

Business Laptop Computers -an Inexpensive-.

Laptop Notebook – Your Portable Office

In much of today’s business world, portability and mobility are the keys to success. Having a laptop notebook computer provides business men and women with portable computing capability, and these notebooks help them take their mobile business functionality to a new level.

Notebook Computers Provide Portability to Today’s Workers

Advances in computer electronics have brought us to the point where we can take these mobile and portable notebook computers all over the world, conduct business from home with our notebooks, and even connect our laptops to a computer network in Los Angeles from a coffee shop in Atlanta. These notebooks have changed how we conduct business, and in order to keep up with these changes more and more professionals and companies are making the investment of notebooks for themselves and their mobile workforce.

For the small company or individual business owner, the investment needed to buy notebooks and move into the world of portability and mobility doesn’t have to be enormous. Some companies, especially larger ones, will make the decision to invest big money in the top of the line notebook computer. Other companies will choose to make a lesser but equally valuable investment in discount or used laptops. As long as the laptop computers meet the mobile business needs, making the smaller investment in notebooks works out great for companies or individuals who are conducting mobile and portable business on a tighter budget.

Best Laptop Computers for College Students

By Gary Hendricks

1. Overview
Before we look at the laptops most suitable for college students, we should understand what makes a good student laptop. Typically, a student would want a laptop that's lightweight and comfortable enough to lug to and from their various classes. In addition, the laptop has to have great battery life and performance. And price is sometimes a concern, so the above features need to be packed into an affordable package.

After considering the types of laptops suitable for college students, I've decided to split them into three categories: budget, thin and light and ultraportable. So let's take a look at them now ...

2. Budget Laptops
For a college student who is short on cash, a budget laptop is a good buy. Some of the best budget laptops include those from Dell, Toshiba and HP. I personally find the Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 to be a great budget laptop. You get an AMD based dual core CPU, which perfroms very well with most applications. You also get a huge 200GB hard drive and a large number of peripheral ports.

There's also a nice Sony VGN-NR160E/S model that is (surprisingly) within the budget category. Out of the box, this machine gives you the Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 processor, 1 GB of RAM and a large 160GB hard drive - that's a lot of computing power at budget price.

3. Thin and Light Laptops
If you prefer a more powerful laptop and don't mind a little bit of weight, then try going for a thin and light laptop. Some of the models I can think of include those from Lenovo, HP and Sony.

The Sony VAIO VGN-FZ280E is a pretty good choice for a thin and light notebook. This system comes with a Bluray compatible writer that can also burn CDs and DVDs. You also get an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz CPU, 2GB RAM and a very large 250GB hard drive.

Another model I'd consider is the HP Pavilion dv6675us. You will get an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz CPU, 4GB RAM and 250GB of hard drive space. The 4GB of RAM is a great feature which will come in handy if you're a student of finance or science and need to run intensive computational applications.

4. Ultraportable Laptops
If the size and weight of the laptop is of high importance to you, then go for an ultraportable laptop. These laptops give very good computing performance in a very small, compact package.

In this category, I think the Lenovo ThinkPad X61 is a great choice for students. It is slightly pricey (but not outrageously so) but it is one of the best performing laptops around. It weighs only about 3 pounds and is hence an extremely portable piece of hardware. You also get an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz CPU, 2GB RAM and an ample 100GB hard drive. You don't get a built-in DVD writer though - that unit is external to the laptop.

Another good choice is the Toshiba Portege R500-S5001X. It weights 2.4 pounds and is less than an inch thick. This is one of the thinnest and lightest notebooks you will find in the market. It's also very reasonably priced.

Conclusion

Well! I hope this article has shown you the various types of laptops which are suitable for college students. Regardless of your needs and budget, make sure that you do proper research before shelling out any cash. Until next time, best of luck and happy shopping!

Acer Desktop Computers

Acer desktop computers are a good choice when you need a decent brand that is also going to be easy on the budget. They offer fairly inexpensive desktops that are generally fairly reliable and can serve more users needs in a computer. So really what you need to do before making any sort of desktop purchase is to thoroughly do your homework and research your needs in a machine.

What do you intend on doing with your desktop computer? What sort of tasks will you be working on? Are you going to be doing heavy video editing? Gaming? Music creation? Watching movies? Surfing the internet? Typing up papers for school? You have to define your needs in order to know what kind of machine you need to buy.

Many people make the classic mistake of thinking that they need to spend about a thousand dollars on a computer. They assume this because they remember that the last computer that they bought might have cost them about a thousand dollars. This is flawed thinking though because computers are getting cheaper and cheaper every day. What used to be an average computer desktop setup costing around a thousand dollars is now a much faster and more versatile setup that only costs about five hundred dollars.

It is not just that computers get faster and cheaper with each passing year, but that the entire price point of a mainstream desktop has shifted downward to around the 300 to 600 dollar range. If you assume that you need to spend about a grand then you are probably going to end up buying way to much computer for your needs and thus wasting a lot of money.

Define your needs and then take a look at a value brand like Acer. This will result in a sensible purchase that will serve you well.

Executive summary about desktop computer by Aoibheann Waller

On your search to find the best mini notebook laptop you will come across several different selections. When you begin your search you may want to check out the five most popular mini notebook laptops that are out right now and go from there.
The first notebook laptop to consider, and one of the most popular, would be the Acer Aspire. The Acer Aspire is popular for several reasons. The Acer sports a wide 9 inch widescreen which is perfect if you plan to use this laptop a lot. It has sharp and bright color that is adjustable to help you see better. Acer is a little bit larger than the other mini notebooks but not by much. The Aspire is the best mini laptop if you want to find a smaller notebook but still keep a lot of your great features.
The second mini laptop that is growing in popularity is the Asus Eee PC 1000. This model is larger than the original Asus notebooks that are already out, but it is still considered a mini. One good feature to the Asus is that it runs less on energy, so your battery lasts longer while you are out.
The third mini to consider is the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 inch. One good thing about the Dell Inspiron mini laptop is the fact that it can be upgraded with a 16GB drive for more storage. The battery lasts for about 31/2 hours without charging. With Dell Inspiron you can personalize your notebook and build it from scratch only adding what you want to put into your mini.
The fourth mini to consider is the HP mini laptop. One problem that consumers seem to run into when searching for a HP mini is the price. While they do run a bit more expensive they still do not offer anything extraordinary that would settle your decision to go with an HP. The HP mini's come with a full size keyboard.
The final notebook to consider is the Sony VAIO. The Sony mini comes with an 8.9 inch screen and features a big 80GB of hard drive. The Sony mini notebook weighs in at a little over three pounds. It also features the Windows Vista home Basic.
If you are still having a hard time deciding on which mini notebook laptop to purchase, make yourself a list of what is most important to you. Once you have narrowed down your list then you can make your mind up based on the one notebook laptop that has everything you need.

The Best Laptop Computer Accessories to Own

This article is dedicated to providing information on the types of accessories available for laptops. The site is organized into 3 main sections to help define the reasons for these accessories: Laptop Safety and Security Accessories, Laptop Travel Accessories and Laptop Accessories for the Home and Office.
If you are like most laptop owners, your laptop is one of your essential pieces of your “life equipment.” These items would include your cell phone, maybe a PDA, your automobile and such. Let’s discuss the available types of accessories available for your laptop that are essential.
If you are a business traveler these accessories can be even more crucial and indispensable.
I’m sure you’ve had moments when you couldn’t locate a file that you knew you had stored on your laptop. Imagine your hard drive failing (it happens!). You would lose all your important files – pictures, videos, everything.
External storage can be something as simple as a thumb drive or a large external drive (at this writing up to 2 Terabyte systems are available from the major Hard Drive Manufacturers). The type of external storage you select will depend on your needs. If you just keep basic files (i.e. “Word” documents or spreadsheets, etc) then a thumb drive could be enough (and they are very inexpensive).

If you plan on storing large files such as lots of photos and videos then you may need to step up in capacity with an external hard drive.
External Hard Drives are available from Computer and Electronics stores.
A laptop carrying case is one of the Best Laptop accessories you can get if you are a frequent traveler. Try to purchase a laptop carrying bag that has plenty of compartments for all those notebook peripherals. Always check to see if your laptop or notebook will fit.
A word of caution that is actually a "Safety and Security" item - you might want to consider the laptop cases that look more like a simple backpack. There are thieves in airports just looking for the cases that scream, "I have a laptop inside me!". If your case looks less likely to contain a laptop the potential thief may pass you by for a more obvious take. Faulty lines can zap your laptop anytime. One item that I have found invaluable is a wireless mouse. The main reason for this accessory is convenience and comfort. The only issues I’ve encountered are with reflective or transparent (glass) surfaces. These optical mice can have difficulty working properly so you may need to also keep a mouse pad with you to ensure the mouse is always on an acceptable surface. And don’t forget to keep spare batteries (usually small AA or AAA).
With the right accessories, your laptop can become something that is not only more comfortable to work on for long periods of time, but you can also make it safer (from electrical spikes, etc) and well as more secure (with appropriate filters – spyware, virus protection , etc.).

Home Desktop Computers (4 Reasons To Buy This Versus)

Executive summary about desktop computer by JR lang, ezinearticles.com
Many have desktops in their homes and offices, and when they shop for a new system, they often only think desktop PC, instead of considering other options. Some can afford to have both a desktop at home and a laptop for mobile computing. But for many this is not an attainable and they have to choose one or the other.
Advances in technology have made laptops much more functional, user-friendly and more powerful than their ancestors. In fact, here are some reasons why a laptop maybe a better alternative than a desktop.
1. Mobility One of the greatest reasons for buying a laptop is the mobility and portability that they provide. A laptop, unlike a desktop can travel anywhere, and provide all types of computer functions anywhere and anytime. Unlike desktop, laptops are wireless
, and allow for wireless Internet connections and email functions.
Also, laptops are versatile as they can serve both functions, both home and mobile use. Also, they can be hooked up to the same peripherals as are used for desktops, such as printers, scanners and regular mice for use at home. Laptops can sit at a desk and are powerful enough to serve as replacements for desktops and provide as much, if not more computing power as desktops.
2. Better Displays For many the argument pro desktop is the monitor, as far as size and quality. But, in reality today’s laptops have bigger and more quality screens, up to 17-inch LCD widescreens with high-def resolution

3. Today’s Laptops Weigh Less Another argument for laptops versus desktops is the new laptops are being made, lighter without sacrificing, power, features and performance. The Apple MacBook is slightly over an inch thick and the Toshiba Protege weighs in at only four pounds. Fujitsu also makes ultra light convertibles that weigh in at only a pound and half.
4. Better Computing and Battery Power Many may argue that desktops are more powerful than laptops, but in today’s high tech world, that is no longer true. They carry some of the top processors, such as Intel Core 2 Duo, superior large storage hard drives and lots of RAM memory, as much as 4GB in some models with upgrades available. They also have a wide range of optical drives, such as Blu Ray for high-def and DVD, and other high-end features critical for entertainment, such as for gaming and video.
And , with new advances in technology battery power has improved as well with some laptops having as much as 7-8 hours of life on a full charge.
5 Incredible Reasons To Purchase A Desktop Computer
Executive summary about desktop computer by Timothy Spartan
To that end, this article provides five important reasons to purchase desktop computers.
- Desktop computers are typically much more affordable than notebook computers. For as little as $299.00, desktop computers can be purchased from one of the leading manufacturers and a notebook computer for as little as $499.00. - Unlike notebook computers, replacing a keyboard, mouse, speakers or even a monitor does not require having your computer serviced by a professional repair shop. Because notebook computers have everything built in, including the aforementioned features, it is more difficult to replace a keyboard or monitor as opposed to desktop computers, which operate on external connections.
Notebook computers, on the other hand, are small and portable. This, alone, makes them more appealing to a thief than desktop computers.
- Desktop computers are stationary by nature. - The vents on desktop computers are located on the back of the tower, which allows for proper ventilation that will help to prevent the computer from overheating. When choosing from the many desktop computers on the market, always make sure that you purchase from a manufacturer who has experience in creating computers. Even though they are more affordable than notebooks, desktop computers are not cheap. Additionally, when choosing any system, including desktop computers, always look at the potential for future upgrading

Desktop Computer Accessories (Top Tips)

By Steve Wickenden
If you have a desktop computer, you need a lot of things to get the most of your experience. There are a lot of desktop computer accessories that you need in order to hear, see, and do all of the things that computers are now designed to do. In some cases, you may get most of these items with your computer, but if you don’t, you need to know what to get and where to get it. You also have to make sure you know what you are buying is going to work with the computer you have.

When you buy a new computer, make sure you ask what desktop computer accessories will come with your new toy. At the very least, you should get speakers and a printer with it, and if you want to add extras, they may charge you for it. For the most part, however, they want to make a sale, and may throw things in just to get you to buy from them, though this is not always the case. Make sure they tell you all about the desktop computer accessories that they are sending to you, and make sure you ask if they are the most up to date ones you can get.

If you find that you need to buy some desktop computer accessories on your own, you can go through the manufacturer of your computer to make sure the ones you are buying will be compatible. This may also allow you to get a better price than by going through the retail stores. You can also find desktop computer accessories by looking online, but make sure you know what you are looking at as your browse. Some manufacturers make accessories that will only go with their own product lines while other try to make universal items that will go with any computer.

Remember to be careful when you install your desktop computer accessories. Most of them come with software that you need to install in order for the item to work with your computer and it’s software. When you plug something new into your computer, the computer should find and install any software it needs. If it does not, you may have a problem on your hands, and you may have to call the manufacturer of the desktop computer accessories you purchased to ask them for help. If they cannot help you, you may have to call your computer maker’s technical help line.

Apple MacBook Pro MA938LL/A 85-Watt Laptop Power Adapter

AC power adapter with MagSafe magnetic power connector. Fully tested and in perfect working condition.Compatible with APPLE 15" and 17" MacBook Pro LaptopsModel: A1172P/N: MA357LL/A, MA938LL/A and othersShipping: Same Day via USPS
Customer Review: Fake
Despite the amazon product page claiming it is an Apple product ("see other products by Apple" and the use of the original Apple part number) the product is not made by Apple, it is a very cheap knockoff. The unit I got was dirty/used, it did not appear new though it did have plastic reminiscent of the Apple stuff stuck to it. The power plug (shown in the inset) doesn't fit well on the unit. The little ears do not latch down, they just sort of flop around. The cord is very thin compared to the real Apple product. The mag-safe plug doesn't appear to fully mate with the MBP (17") but it does make contact and apparently charges. The light stays on after you disconnect it from the MBP unlike the Apple adapters. Assuming it doesn't explode my MBP, burn the house down (it does not carry the UL stamp), or leak a lot of RF noise (it is not FCC certified either despite a misleading sounding FCC like warning stamped on it) its probably fine for stationary use (mechanically its so flimsy I wouldn't want to take it on the road). Its gotten a lot hotter than the Apple adapter in the hour I've had it plugged in but otherwise is functional.

Customer Review: Can't Live Without It If You're A Road Warrior
I fly AA and they have power hubs for dc charges under most of the seats. Working the whole flight and de-planing with a fully charged laptop is absolutely wonderful. Highly recommended, but just make sure it is the right one for your laptop on Targus's site!
Customer Review: Forgot our laptop power supply on our trip, this was a great stand-in
While vacationing in summer 2007, we forgot to pack our Dell's laptop power supply. After making a call to Dell customer support for how to best get one that day, they recommended we go to a retail electonics store. We stopped at Best Buy, saw this model (~$) and bought it after we got their assurances that we could return it immediately if it didn't work out. Back in the rental car, we opened it up, saw the Dell's model number listed in its multi-page compability charts, plugged it into the cigarette lighter and the laptop, and all worked as promised. PLUSES The niceties are that with this product there are both AC and DC input cables. While the AC plugs into the wall, the DC has ends that plug into the cigarette lighter as well as an In-Air converter (which we've never used). After getting home, we were also pleased that among the other laptop tips, there were ones that also work with our IBM ThinkPad and HP Pavilion laptops. (Tip: We used a label maker to label the tips with the corresponding devices we use.) We now use this at home to charge one of the laptops that travels between home and office. It's also handy when traveling with multiple laptops since you just bring this one charger and multiple tips, though we'd have to take turns charging. MINUSES Although the instructions inside indicate you can buy an optional Digital Device Adapter to plug into it, advertised to charge your cell phone, MP3 player, digital camera, or PDA, there are no tips available for our Samsung Blackjack cellphone (which we would have expected) or our Sony Cybershot camera (which we did not expect). They do make iPod adapters. See for the available tips. OVERALL We are pleased with this purchase, even though we felt it was rather expensive. I would have given this 5 stars if it they made tips to handle our non-notebook devices.
