Apple MacBook Air 13.3" Laptop (1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM, 64 GB Solid-State Drive)
Macbook Air defines "laptop"
Let's start with the negatives.
This laptop is not for everyone.
Obligatory Disclaimer to the savvy consumer: this laptop is a don't buy. First of all, it's a first generation product. NEVER buy a first generation product. The only people who should buy this laptop are the people who can shrug if they lose the thing.
* There are limited ports. In fact, there's only one.
* The battery is not replaceable.
* There is no integrated Wi-Max.
* The battery life is on par with current generation Apple laptops.
* It's "underpowered" in this generation of overpowered desktop-replacements.
Apple Notebook
Consumers who worry about the above, but still want to run a variation of OS X may purchase this: Apple MacBook MB063LL/B 13.3" Laptop (2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 8x Super Drive) Black Or this:Apple MacBook Pro MA896LL/A 15" Laptop (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive).
Or simply get the Thinkpad X300 and run it on a last generation OS.
But I gave this 5 stars, why?
* It's beautiful.
* The build is solid.
* I can carry it in one hand with no effort.
And here's the thing about the lack of ports.
* Peripherals will eventually all be wireless.
Bluetooth peripherals are already in the marketplace (obviously where Apple hedges its bets on). Products like Eye-Fi Card, Wireless 2 GB SD Memory Card will become the norm. Laser Printers can be run on wireless networks.
And why pay $1000 more for a lower memory Drive?
If you can't afford it, then don't! But consider this in two years:
* SSD will be the standard for all future laptops.
This price will definitely go down in future renditions of the laptop and will no doubt be the standard in 2 - 3 years. Not only will the price fall, but the speed and quality will undoubtedly increase too.
I've had every laptop hard drive fail on me throughout the past 5 years. No more. The reason why the military invests in SSD is in their stability. I "needed" stability in my laptop HDs, and I "wanted" it now.
This laptop is ahead of its time. People shouldn't kid themselves. It's the equivalent of having the option to own either a Ferrari or a Toyota pickup (Apple apparently recommends both i.e. wireless CD access). They accomplish the same thing, but the former's capacity is limited by legal speed limits. Not only that, the former is vastly expensive to maintain and has limited applicability.
Both is better, but if you had to choose?
This laptop is the same thing. And I love it.
A thing of beauty... for those who can use it.
The MacBook Air is an amazing piece of technology to be sure. It can do most everything that it's big brothers, MacBook and MacBook Pro, can do. All in a thin, three pound package.
But this machine is not for everybody. It's for someone who already has Mac tech somewhere else in their life and want a pricey, portable addition to that tech.
If you're using this at home and the office, you'll need at least one Airport Extreme to get your WiFi going. You'll also need to have a sharable Mac, or an external hard drive or external SuperDrive. One of your WiFi devices should probably be the new Time Capsule so you can quickly back-up the system since 80gb probably won't last long these days.
Apple usually stays a step or two ahead of the industry. This time, they may have taken a giant step too far.

Asus Eee 4G 7 inch Micro Laptop PC
Asus Eee 4G 7" Micro Laptop PC (900 MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB Hard Drive, Webcam, Linux Preloaded) Galaxy Black
incredibly handy, great value
This little PC is ideal for someone who wants to be able to work and access the internet on the go. I am a college student, and although there is no way that you could replace a desktop PC with one of these things, it is an ideal way to take documents and other work to all the various places you need to go. The keyboard is very easy to use, the computer is incredibly quiet and it's size is just unbeatable.
Word of advice: Make sure to change to full desktop mode to uncover the true genius of this machine. Although the computer does not come with instructions on how to do this, you should be able to find them online pretty easily.
Asus Laptops
amazing mini laptop
Asus eee is aces. It is a miracle machine. It searches, imports videos, does email and more. Two minor negatives. The screen size is small compared to the unit size. There is an excessive inch border on each side. Second, the keys are not exactly a normal keyboard. Takes some adjustment. Also the specs from ASUS says unit comes with cam, but sold by amazon without.

Sony VAIO VGN-CR320E/P 14.1" Laptop
Sony VAIO VGN-CR320E/P 14.1" Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) PinkOne Amazing Vaio
I bought the Sony Vaio CR320E/W after weeks of research. It is light, fast, and stylish (and cheap?). I needed something portable for college so I went with the 14" and I love it. The screen is really bright and glossy. The laptop itself weighs nothing compared to my dad's 15" Dell laptop. The build quality is very sturdy and the gloss white finish doesn't show fingerprints as bad as one would think. It does not have a latch to keep it closed but rather it relies on the tension of the spring. The spring works fine and has never been an issue. The Core2Duo processor is great for all around use. It isn't the fastest dual-core out there, but it is more than enough to get the job done for the average consumer. The bluetooth worked great and instantly connected to my phone. The camera is one of the neatest features. Besides taking regular photos and videos, it also has mac-like effects that can distort the image in weird ways and do random flips and rotations of the image. Another mac-like thing was the keyboard. The keyboard has a slight gap in between each key and they are all rounded a little. The keys have the just right amount of "roughness" to make good contact with your fingers. The speakers on this laptop are not extraordinarily load but they are not weak by any means. I said it was cheap because the older version of this laptop (vgn-cr220e/w) which doesn't have bluetooth and a slower/smaller hard drive is actually more expensive on amazon.com than this one. I personally saved a little more money and picked this laptop up from Best Buy after instant rebate.
Sony Notebook
There were 3 cons that I found with this laptop. First of all, it comes loaded with Sony bloatware programs. I spent the first 2-3 hours with this laptop just uninstalling the software. All they do is slow down the computer and most of them are very repetitive when compared to Windows programs (Sony Home Video Creator v. Windows Movie Maker). The other issue with this laptop was the battery life. Even though it is advertised as 2-4.5 hours, I just wanted to bring that up because it typically gets around 3-4 hours, which is a little bit too short for me. The third issue was that it comes with a weak graphics card. It is fine for general use, but it probably would have a little difficulty keeping up with the newest games. All in all, this vaio is a great buy.
Step out and be seen with the portable, powerful and incredibly beautiful VAIO(R) CR notebook. Featuring a stunning 14.1" widescreen LCD with XBRITE-ECO LCD technology, this thin-and-light fashion statement is an astonishing sight to behold. Backed by the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system and Intel Core 2 Duo processor, this lightning-fast, super-powerful mobile notebook is slim, lightweight, and packed with entertainment and design extras. From a built-in web cam and AV controls to its unique paint colors and comfortable, easy-to-clean keyboard, the remarkable VAIO(R) CR notebook delivers entertainment, power and pizzazz. 14.1 WXGA (1280 x 800) XBRITE-ECO Display Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with up to 358MB Video Memory Built-in Webcamera and microphone DVD+-R/RW Drive with Double Layer Intel PRO/Wireless 4965 802.11A/B/G/N 10/100 Ethernet Bluetooth Card Reader - Memory Stick(R) Duo with MG, Secure Digital (SD) 1 ExpressCard Slot (34 Slot) 3 USB 2.0, 1 Headphone out; 1 Microphone-in, 1 VGA, 1 TV-Out (S-Video), 1 IEEE 1394, 1 RJ-11, 1 RJ-45 Approximate Unit Dimensions - 13.2 (W) x 9.8 (D) x 1.67 (H) Approximate Unit Weight - 5.49lbs

Apple MacBook Air MB003LL/A 13.3" Laptop
Apple MacBook Air MB003LL/A 13.3" Laptop (1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive)
I own a MacBook Air...
I just came back from a 3-day trip - my first travel experience with the MacBook Air. I do own a first generation MacBook Pro and was honestly tempted at first to bring it along in case I need "it". "It" mainly referred to the DVD drive, built-in ethernet and perhaps superior hard-drive speed/access time. I decided to go with the MacBook Air alone (and the USB ethernet adapter) - and see what happens.
It went great. First of all, the bag on my shoulder felt almost unreasonably light. Battery life was more than sufficient to support my three-hour flight with about 25% of capacity left at the end. Connecting to the internet at the airport (via wi-fi) and in the hotel (USB-ethernet adapter) was a breeze (note, however, that I did need the $29 USB-ethernet adapter).
At the conference, laptop-envy abounded... quite amazing, actually. The reaction of someone who has never seen it to its size, sturdiness, and form factor is quite impressive.
Apple Laptops
I ichatted with my family without problems with good quality video; the systems overall felt a bit more responsive than my 2-year old MacBook Pro with the first-generation Core Duo chip.
If you want a light, thin, sturdy laptop with full-size keyboard, a gorgeous screen, MacOS X (10.5), and you don't necessarily need a CD/DVD drive (you can buy an external one, but somehow lugging this extra piece around somehow defies the purpose of the MBA), and can put up with not "optimal" hard-drive performance, then the MBA is exactly what you want!
I would buy the USB-ethernet adapter, though.
If you need high-speed performance, FireWire, a high-end graphics card, a built-in DVD/CD drive etc, then the MBA is not for you - but I guess then you would not be looking at this page...;)
Honestly, I could not be happier with my purchase. My MB Pro will be up on eBay soon..
Thinnovation. Apple MacBook Air the thinnest notebook in the world.
At 0.16 inch at its thinnest point, just 0.76 inch at its thickest point, and a mere 3.0 pounds, MacBook Air is so compact and light that you can take it everywhere. But unlike other ultraportable designs, it doesn't compromise on features and performance. MacBook Air includes a bright 13.3-inch widescreen LED display, built-in iSight camera, 2GB of RAM, 80GB hard drive, and a powerful Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4MB L2 Cache. Enjoy also a full-size backlit keyboard with keys that automatically illuminates from behind in low-light conditions, and a spacious solid-state trackpad with multi-touch gesture that lets you zoom, rotate, swipe, and scroll with just a flick or a pinch. Engineered for the wireless world, MacBook Air also comes with 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and Remote Disc to deliver unparalleled wireless versatility to use any Mac or PC storage drive. The MacBook Air battery is our thinnest ever, yet it doesn't compromise power. You can access the web wirelessly for five full hours. With MacBook Air, mobile computing is a sensible reality. 13.3 diagonal Glossy WXGA (1280 x 800) TFT LED backlit Display Built-in iSight camera and Microphone Built-in full-size keyboard with 78 (U.S.) keys, including 12 function keys; Solid-state trackpad Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with up to 144MB Shared Video Memory Built-in AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi wireless networking (802.11a/b/g/n) Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 Audio out, 1 Micro- DVI Pure digital video output -DVI output using micro-DVI to DVI adapter (included); VGA output using micro-DVI to VGA adapter (included) Approximate Unit Dimensions/Weight - 12.8 (W) x 0.16-0.76 (H) x 8.94 (D); 3 lbs MacBook Air SuperDrive (MB397G/A) optional

Apple PowerBook Laptop 15.2 inch M9969LL/A
Apple PowerBook Laptop 15.2" M9969LL/A (1.67 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive)
Great Laptop!
I have had this computer since Feb 2006 and have had only one problem with it. My superdrive stopped working within my warranty period, but I had it replaced by apple promptly. Since then, I have had no issues with this computer. My display did not suffer from the horizontal line issues since I purchased a refurbished powerbook g4. In my mind, this is the best 15" Powerbook G4 to get, since it has DDR2 RAM which is now getting really cheap, and has the standard 128mb dual link video card. I have my system maxed out at 2GB of RAM with the 100gb 7200 rpm drive and it runs great. It has been a reliable workhorse computer that has gotten me through the last part of my college and now serves me at my job. I would recommend over some of the first generation core duo macbook pros since I have had very good reliability and it runs about 40 degrees F cooler during high load. I use my computer for photo editing, video editing, surfing the web, and creating webpages, and it has remained as fast as when I purchased it. The display backlighting is also as bright as when it was purchased, as well as the backlit keyboard. If you are in the market for a reliable computer, this one fits the bill.
Apple Laptops
Included Accessories: Modem cable, power adapter, AC wall plug, power cord, lithium-ion battery
The M9969LL/A 15-inch PowerBook is a study in power and functionality. This easy-to-use portable has everything needed to organize your digital life. It combines faster processing, more (and faster) storage, more advanced graphics, and other powerhouse features for your professional endeavors. With Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire 800, optical digital audio and a new display, it's the gotta-have notebook for the pro. And thanks to its durable design and built-in wireless, it's ready to travel in backpacks and tote bags just about everywhere. It's easy to warm up to the SuperDrive-equipped PowerBook G4 computers. With fast DVD burning on every system ? and double-layer burning capability. Thanks to the PowerPC G4 processor with Velocity Engine, every PowerBook packs a tremendous punch for doing everything from numerical computations to editing video. 8x SuperDrive DVD+R DL, DVD+/-RW, CD-RW slot-loading optical drive Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T (Gigabit) Ethernet 54-Mbps AirPort Extreme (Wi-Fi 802.11g) wireless; built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR 56K V.92 modem Full-size, illuminated keyboard with ambient light sensor Video out - DVI, VGA, S-Video and compsoite Combined analog and optical digital line-in & line-out, stereo speaker and microphone Two FireWire ports (1 FireWire 400, 1 FireWire 800), two USB 2.0 ports, one Type I/II PC Card slot Includes S-Video adapter, DVI to VGA adapter Operating System - Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger (incl. Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat AV, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Xcode Developer tools) Included Software - iLife '05(iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, GarageBand), Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive, FileMaker Pro Trial, OmniGraffle, QuickBooks for Mac, Zinio Reader, Art Directors' Toolkit, GraphicConverter, Apple Hardware Test Footp
Great, reliable machine
This is just the perfect size for someone who writes, travels and and uses the computer for research and shopping. I read some of the negative reviews here from people having problems with their powerbooks and I never feel compelled to write because I don't have any - problems that is, besides the bluetooth being a bit too competitive with the airport. The airport works fine (not great like with my plastic cased iMac, but very respectibly nonetheless), but it tends to kick the bluetooth out of the air. At least that's my somewhat uneducated opinion and experience. Other than that: great, flawless screen (thank God!, oops, sorry, Steve Jobs), wonderful keyboard, great working hard drive (fingers crossed now), and overall a superb piece of equipment.

Cheap Laptop
Off the Hizzook! Awesome!!!
This little white computer rocks. Don't know where they got them from, and how they are able to sell them for so cheap. I hope they didn't fall off the back of a truck. (Just Kidding.) I'm very impressed, though. I've been a Mac user for 8 years. This is just another example of Macs great craftsmanship. I would suggest this Mac to anyone who wants to have everything and be up-to-date in the Mac world without paying $1,2000 and up. There's only a few minor suggestions I have: download the newest software after installing Mac OS X Tiger (It costs about a $100 bucks.), google search Firefox and install it, and go to apple.com and search in the support section for this Mac, iBook G4, so you can get the user's manual. That's about it, and it will be running like you paid $1,400 for it.
And where are the blemishes!!??? I didn't see any. Awesome deal, awesome Mac. You guys rock!!!

I guess it was a good deal for the money? Seems to work alright, no instruction booklet came with the laptop, can't get the internet working yet along with a few other issues...we'll figure it out :) But...all in all, it's a nice laptop and I have faith!
Love It!
This computer is byfar the BEST laptop I've ever had. Being a college student it was imperative that I find something cheap but good. And the fact that I was able to find a Mac at such a low price still amazes me. I got mine today and it works like a dream! You can surf the web incredibly fast. Save alot of music, plays dvd's nice and crisp. Wireless is very simple and easily acessible. I just love it and I would recommend it to anyone!
Ps. This laptop would be perfect for a college student!

Apple MacBook Pro MA895LL/A 15.4 inch Laptop
Apple MacBook Pro MA895LL/A 15.4" Laptop (2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive)
Macbook Pro:
I have just got a Macbook Pro to replace my iMac G5, and boy am I happy.
I have the Macbook Pro 15" matte display 2.2g with 2GB of RAM and a 160 GB hard-drive. I can't describe how happy I am to have a portable computer.
Cheap Apple Laptops
Design:
The first thing you will notice when you see the Macbook Pro is design. From the battery to the iSight camera there isn't one thing that is not completely thought out. Apple has always been known for their deign, but this is their best design so far. When you look at any other laptop brand there are ugly colors and a non uniform case. The Macbook Pro is completely silver with smooth edges and parallel lines. The Macbook Pro is beautiful.
Performance:
The Macbook Pro is the fastest laptop I have ever used. With and Intel Core 2 Duo processor this laptop flies. Whether I'm compressing a Movie in Final Cut Express or importing photos into iPhoto it is light years ahead of what my G5 would do. What would take my 3 minutes to do on my iMac takes my 1 minute to do on the Pro. It is extremely fast.
Leopard:
With the new operating system leopard this is a start of the art computer. My favorite features in Leopard are actually some of the small ones. I absolutely love Spaces. I have different spaces for Mail, Safari, iChat, and then one empty space for any other application, like Final Cut Express. I also like the RSS reader in Mail. Instead of going online and checking Safari, Mail will just tell me what RSS feeds are updated. iChat screen sharing is also amazing. Me friend Chandler and I often will control each other Macbook Pro just to see what each of us is doing. While the image quality isn't the best, that isn't expected with the 64 bit operating system streaming over the web. I haven't had a chance to try Time Machine yet, but when I do I will tell you about it.
iLife 08:
iLife is has always been great, but with 08 they made it even better. I will explain my top feature in each application.
iPhoto: I really don't use iPhoto that much, but my favorite feature in iPhoto 08 is events. Now when you import your photos, they go into "event" lists. It is a great way to organize your photos. For instance I can put all of my Christmas pictures into an event and my band picture into another.
iWeb: I can't just pick one feature from iWeb. I have two. The first is the ability to put Google Adsense directly into your website. Now you can make money directly from .Mac. My second favorite feature is the ability to upload using FTP to your own server. That is what I've been waiting for, and now I might use it to update my [...] website.
Garageband:
My favorite feature in Garageband is "Magic Garageband." WIth Magic Garageband you can select a style of music and then change instruments and sounds and make your own song off a preloaded one Apple has made for you. I can now make great songs, easily. The best parts is as always everything is royalty free. So you can put the songs into your own movies.
iMovie:
Sadly I think iMovie 08 is a downgrade form earlier versions, but I'll tell you about that later. My favorite feature in iMovie 08 is the direct upload to Youtube. You can click a button and then it will publish your movie to Youtube. Now, the reason I say that it is a downgrade is because they have stripped all of the main features out of it. Th effects, and timeline are all gone. Yes it is easier, but there are not a lot of good editing features. At least iMovie HD can co-exist on the same operating system, and Apple offers it as a free download. As for me, I got Final Cut Express and it is great.
Overall:
I absolutely love my new Macbook Pro and the software that comes with it.

Asus Eee 4G Surf 7 inch Micro Laptop PC
Asus Eee 4G Surf 7" Micro Laptop PC (900 MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB Hard Drive, Linux Preloaded) Pure White
Awesome little laptop.
I purchased the Asus Eee laptop from amazon about two weeks ago and have been using it on a daily basis. Now understand that I am not an expert in computers and have never used Linux before. After powering up this little thing, I was able to be on the web and use many of its programs in no time. I have played some of the games that are included and created documents with Open Office. I have both a PC and a Mac, and this is just as good in my opinion. It is very user friendly and very intuitive. I have not yet loaded Windows XP and am not sure if I ever will becasue it is such a great computer with what it has. I will be using the Eee mostly to go on the web and do email, as well as traveling with it since it such a small and light laptop. I have also downloaded some pictures and music and found that it was quite simple to do. The built-in camera is a great added feature too. The only thing that has taken a little getting used to is the key board since it is so small, but just after using it for a couple of days, it is now second nature for me...in fact I am typing on it from a Wifi hotspot in Miami Shores, Florida. I have also received lots of positive feedback from friends and total strangers alike. Everyone is amazed how well it works, and not to mention its size! Overall, I really think this is probably one of the best purchases I have made on Amazon. The price cannot be beat, the size and weight of the Eee is something to marvel at, and it actually works as well as advertised. This is a fun and great little machine! Asus hit a homerun with this one.

Asus Eee 2G Surf 7 inch Micro Laptop PC
Asus Eee 2G Surf 7" Micro Laptop PC (800 MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, 2 GB Hard Drive, Linux Preloaded) Blush Pink
Just love it!!
Despite buying a Dell laptop in December 2007 I wanted something that was a little more mobile than the Dell. I saw the EEE on Amazon and fell in love with it. I ordered my 4 Gig White Surf EEE on January 29th from Amazon.com and received the unit the next day. Despite reading reviews on Amazon.com that it looked "cheap", this looks and feels as real as a regular laptop computer. I have programmed it so that I can use the advanced desktop settings and have established Wifi with my home networking. At the moment I am still exploring its many features but so far I am loving every inch of this little machine. I am still waiting on my card. Hopefully it will be here this week.
Even though I have only had it for nearly a week now, I love it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a device that is ultra portable and gets the job done. The keyboard does take a getting used to but I am confident that I will in time. I mainly use the Eee to surf the net and check email. I had no problems at all in connecting with my wireless internet. I ordered a memory card for the Eee but haven't recieved it yet.

4G Surf ONLY
This is concerning the 4G Surf models only. Amazon throws all the reviews (and product specs) under one heading, even thought here are some differences between them. That isn't Asuss fault; it is Amazon's, but I wanted to point his out.
Here are some things to keep in mind with this:
There is no web cam with the 4G Surf. (no big deal to me, but others should know)
The 4G Surf memory is upgradeable, but it is a project compared to the 4G. It isn't impossible, but it is more in depth and I am putting that off for another week or so. The extra memory is inexpensive though, and I definitely would encourage picking up 1G.
After being on for a while (maybe an hour, maybe two) the touch pad loses all sensitivity. The design seems to have heat sinks under the touch pad (just a guess) and it heats up just enough to make it useless. I recommend you also purchase a USB mouse so you aren't stuck.
It arrives with Linux installed, and it is wonderful. I am keeping my system Linux, though I may install Ubuntu. The only problem I found with Linux is it isn't compatible with my Canon software. Therefore, I also bought a small compact flash card reader so I can transfer my photos. The image editor included doesn't support Canon's RAW format, which is what I shot, but it does support most others.
Pick up a SD card to use for extra space. I bought the 8G Amazon has for less then $40. The laptop recognized it right away, but my two other systems weren't able to.
All things considered, I believe this will be the next wave in computers. I would recommend this to almost every one.
Play, relax, and entertain on the go with shock-proof design. At 7" and weighing only 2lbs, you can take the Eee PC anywhere. Bumps and shocks are no longer issues. With a dependable solid-state disk, you get unparalleled shock-protection and reliability. Power-efficient design provides longer operating time when on the go. With a rapid start-up time that takes only 15secs to boot, the Eee PC is always ready to get into action. No technical manual required with the specially designed, user-friendly and intuitive graphic interface. You're always connected with built-in WiFi 802.11 b/g that automatically detects and connects to the Internet at any hotspot. The Eee PC includes the documents and the e-mails software, and a suite of other productivity software to help keep you on track. Upload photos and videos and share them instantly on Flickr or YouTube without waiting till you get home. Enjoy music and videos with extensive support for a wide range of digital multimedia. Log on to Skype or other network, and you can connect with friends anywhere, anytime. Clear up wire clutter with the built-in speakers, and microphone. Since it's so easy to use and durable this makes a perfect gift for children, elderly or as a second lightweight notebook.
